Taylor’s Van Gogh, Pissaro and Degas go millions at Christie’s auction

Another record auction of Elizabeth Taylor’s rarest art collection bought around $21 million. Three masterpiece paintings from her private collection were auctioned at Christie’s International in London.

Taylor truly had great taste and Vincent Van Gogh, Camille Pissarro and Edgar Degas’s paintings from her exclusive collection straightly spoke this.

From the three, the biggest-selling item was the Dutch master’s ‘Vue de l’asole de la Chapelle de Remy’, used to hang in Liz’s home at Bel air. The painting given to Taylor by her father was sold for $16 million to an anonymous telephone bidder.

The tan and turquoise painting by Van Gogh has happy emotions with tragic elements. It depicts the view of the asylum at Saint-Rémy were Von Gogh later killed himself. The painting was made by him when he was allowed out in the fields after six months in a cell. So it pictured his brimming emotions through an intrinsic combination of colors.

The two other paintings auctioned were – a landscape by Claude Pissarro and a self-portrait by Edgar Degas.

This is not the first time when anything from the legendary actress’s collection had sold for a lot of amount. Like these ’crown jewels’ of starlet’s art collection, a 17^th century portrait by Frans Hals was sold in January for $2.1 million.

Elizabeth, who died at the age of 79, was famous for her exotic and rare collection. Her gemstone jewelry, film memorabilia and other personal possessions from her collection were auctioned in December at a record-breaking $156 million.

Jennifer Aniston to receive a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been shining brightly in the Hollywood sky but they are not the stars of Walk of fame. It is Brad’s ex-wife and former Friends star Jennifer Aniston who is set to be immortalized on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday. She is the latest Hollywood star to receive a star on the famous Walk of Fame.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce reveled plans to honor Aniston with a star in front of W Hollywood Hotel near Hollywood and Vine. The actress will be receiving the honor in a ceremony on Wednesday, Feb 22 for her contribution to the entertainment industry.

Jennifer is selected for the honor for portraying the always-adorable character of Rachel Green in the TV sitcom Friends which earned her an Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Award with several nominations.

Jennifer, who is busy in promoting her upcoming comedy film ‘Wanderlust’ have played the character of Rachel Green for continuous 10 seasons and her role have been praised by the world. The starlet is the ex-wife of Academy Award winner Brad Pitt who had proposed her with a unique and opulent diamond engagement ring.

She is now dating Justin Theroux and recently put a stop on the rumors of expecting a baby with him. She said that the two are enjoying their relation and are no way planning wedding any soon.

As the race upto the Oscars 2012 is hotting up so, speculations are galore regarding who is going to take the golden statue home. This is going to be the final as well as the biggest event of the Oscar night. Next comes the two categories of the supporting actor and actresses, here again movies remain more or less the same only the names of actor and actresses have changed, in the men section, the five names are Kenneth Branagh, Jonah Hill, Nick Nolte, Christopher Plummer and Max von Sydow. It looks like this time Plummer may plum in the trophy for the Beginners, though Jonah Hill and Kenneth Branagh are also close at heels so it will only be clear on February 26 who gets Oscar finally. Moving on to the Actress in the supporting role Octavia Spencer with her role in The Help is speculated to be the winner, though her co crew member Jessica Chastain and Melissa McCarthy for her role in Bridesmaids may just tip her of off even Berenice Bejo with her performance in The Artist have impressed many critics.

Next come the big one, in the best director category we have some big names Woody Allen for Midnight in Paris, Alexander Payne for the Descendants, Michel Hazanavicius for The Artist , Terrence Mallick for The tree of Life and Martin Scorsese for Hogo. Here The Artist director is slightly in a stronger position followed by Scorsese for his direction in Hogo, but Oscars are known for surprises so, we can never be too sure.

Finally for best film The Artist it seems like it is going to be a cake walk for this film, liked by one and all the movie is simply memorable. Though at the Golden Globes this film had to share the honor with the Descendants and Tradition says that the Globes are a barometer for how the Academy will vote. So, will we have A Tie here!!! You never know!!! It may even not come in as a surprise if The Help wins because The Academy known for loving a heartwarming tale of redemption and social justice.
